Saigon Co.op opens store in Ben Tre

Saigon Co.op and a venture between Saigon Co.op and Saigon Co.op Investment Development Joint Stock Co. (SCID) have invested VND60 billion in the two-story retail store. Saigon Co.op alone owns 60% of the store.

This is one of the four which Saigon Co.op plans to open this month. The other three are Co.opMart Buon Ma Thuot in the Central Highlands province of Daklak; and two in HCMC – Co.opMart Tuy Ly Vuong and Co.opMart Pham Van Hai, with each costing VND35 billion to VND60 billion.

Bird flu recurs in southern Ben Tre province

Samples of these ducks tested positive for H5N1 virus. According to Mo Cay district’s veterinary agency, all these ducks were of unclear origin and were not vaccinated.

Da Phuoc Hoi commune sterilized and quarantined bird flu-affected areas and asked local people not to transport, slaughter and buy or sell poultry. Hoi An hamlet vaccinated more than 2,000 out of a total 4,500 fowls.

According to Nguyen Van Het, deputy chairman of Da Phuoc Hoi communal People’s Committee, about 12,000 fowls have been vaccinated. At present, the commune still needs an additional 4,500 doses of vaccine.

So far, the bird flu epidemic in Mo Cay district has been kept under control.


Ben Tre – homeland of the coconut tree

Tran Duy Phuong, deputy director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Ben Tre, said that the festival promises to impress visitors and promote the socio-economic achievements of Ben Tre, which is famous for coconut trees and related commodities, in an effort to improve the lives of local coconut farmers and develop stability in the industry.
